Safe Sanctuaries (SS)

Individual “Electronic” Training Procedure

1.         Volunteers seeking training via our “electronic” version may pick up a training packet at the church office.  The training DVD may be viewed at the church or at home.  Volunteers are encouraged to contact the church administrator (Jennifer Terbeek) to schedule a time to complete the training at the church.  It is also advisable to contact Jennifer to schedule a time to pick up the packet if the training DVD is going to be viewed at home.  Volunteers may contact the church administrator directly.  Jennifer will then communicate to the SSOC that an electronic training has been completed. The training and completion of paper work takes approximately 2 hours.

2.         The training packet will include a DVD copy of the training and all of the required paperwork (volunteer application, authorization for criminal records check, reference check form, participation covenant, and a post-test).  An envelope will also be provided for the volunteer to securely place these completed forms and return to the senior pastor.

3.         The training packet will also include a Safe Sanctuaries brochure, a report of suspected incident of child abuse form, a nursery and Sunday School sign-in and sign-out form, a special event permission form, and a copy of the abbreviated policies and procedures.  These are available for the volunteer to keep and review or use as needed.

4.         Volunteers choosing to complete the training at the church will go to the church office at the scheduled time and the church administrator will provide them with a training packet and will set up the training DVD.  After viewing the training DVD, the volunteer will complete the post-test included in the training packet and will take the post-test to the church administrator.

5.         All of the required paperwork (volunteer application, authorization for background check, reference check form, and participation covenant) must be completed and returned to the senior pastor before a volunteer can be scheduled to work with children or youth.   The volunteer should place the forms in the separate envelope provided in the packet.  That envelope then should be sealed with the volunteer’s signature placed over the seal to insure security.  The volunteer may return to envelope directly to the senior pastor or to the church administrator who will deliver it to the senior pastor.
